Reverse resolutions.

Reverse resolutions.

"The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new." — Socrates

A new year arrives, and it’s just another day. Though we understand this, it's easy to get caught up in the allure of fresh beginnings - the promise of a reset, new habits, and a better version of ourselves. But with this pursuit of newness often comes an undercurrent of pressure, comparisons, and endless lists of needs, wants, and expectations.

Who will I become? Where will I go? Am I learning enough, growing enough, doing enough? Should I be a better friend? Am I pushing myself hard enough? Am I achieving enough? Do I have enough? Am I enough?

Instead of adding more, I am choosing a different path - one of reverse resolutions. Rather than striving to do more, I am asking: What can I let go of this year, both physically and emotionally?

Can I allow outdated beliefs about myself to drift away? Can I release the need to be loud, impatient, judgmental, lazy, busy? Am I truly not a morning person, or have I just told myself that story for too long? Can I let go of art that doesn't make me ponder, objects I never use, clothes that no longer fit who I am in this moment? Can I release past wrongs—both those done to me and by me? Will I really read all these books? Do I need all these comforts that make me feel at home and allow me to feel like me? (Reminder to self - I am not the sum of the objects around me and the thoughts in my head).

My intention is to shed layers - physical and metaphysical - to create space. To explore myself beyond what I own, beyond the expectations I’ve held onto. To listen more deeply, to experience more freely, to share more openly, and simply be.
